FE College
November 2008 Further Education College update
The long term future of this project in its original form is now uncertain mainly due to the present economic climate.
The big plan to be part of a multi-faceted sustainable living and work environment that creates pathways for our students into employment and the community is still our ultimate goal.
However, as the outcome of the purchase and development of the Seale Hayne Site will now undoubtedly not be finalised until well into the future, we are looking at viable alternatives and currently planning strategies that will fulfil the local need for further education.
There are still a great number of students leaving school with out a viable education or training route. I hear of many students failing to gain a place at a college anywhere in the country. Colleges are extremely oversubscribed and the local need is growing.
It is our intention to look at the possibility of setting up small courses that will support students that are leaving school who have not gained a place elsewhere. We hope that these courses will lead students into colleges in the future and be the building blocks of a new regional college.
The Lifeworks College vision is a ground breaking idea that is desperately needed in the South West. We hope that over the next year we will be able to plot a course of action that will eventually deliver this vision into reality. In the meantime we will be trying to respond to the local need.
We would like to hear from parents and teachers and other professionals who can identify potential students for this provision so we may gauge the demand and plan accordingly.
