May 2008 Further Education College update

Our long and frustrating journey to acquire a place at Seale-Hayne will be over soon-- one way or another.

Plymouth University has recently declared the preferred bidder, Buccleuch Property, based in London and Scotland after a long and arduous process, which narrowed it down to eight final bidders of which we were one.

It was always assumed that a partnership was the best way forward to combine the cash receipts necessary for the University and to protect the educational legacy of the original organisation. Lifeworks had been in consultation with all the other bidders prior to the final stage and all had expressed a desire to explore the partnership options with ourselves.

Now that we know who has won the bid, there will be a lot of work to do to include us in their scheme for the site. There will certainly be other projects wishing to be included and we have met most of them during this process and welcome their inclusion as this would only go to create a dynamic and pro active campus for our future students to be involved with.

So where are we? We are, in reality, no nearer and no further away from achieving our goal as we were twelve months ago. The planning process will be very lengthy but if we can get commitment from Buccleuch in the very near future, then we can start to put our own plans in place. If we cannot make a partnership, or if the process is too long or the plans do not fit with our vision, then we must look for another site. We have already had approaches from other organisations and they will need to be reviewed as will other potential sites. We are committed to creating a new college that will deliver all our dreams for a fulfilling future. So, still watch this space, and don-t believe everything you read in the newspapers.
